THE APPLE TREE by Kimara Wise

My garden’s full of many plants,
I have a favorite, I can’t recant.
The apple tree, above the rest,
Brings greatest pleasure, I must attest.

As a child I’d hide away,
Among its branches I would sway.
With book in hand my thoughts could soar,
From castle walls to distant shores.

And when my tummy did protest,
I’d pluck an apple from the rest.
And there I’d sit for hours on end,
Sometimes alone, sometimes with friend.

No longer do I climb the tree,
But sadness does not trouble me.
Today instead of climbing high,
I’ll bake myself an apple pie.
