If you have been knitting awhile you have probably heard of Elizabeth Zimmermann. If you haven’t heard of her already then you are in for a real treat, and trust me you will encounter one of her patterns at some point. She is the universal grandmother of knitting for modern knitters. Her books are written in part as a “how to knit” and in part conversational as though you were just sitting down for a cup a tea with her. Limited pictures, poor text formatting, and a general “oldness” add to the charm of her books. If you are just looking for a pattern book, filled with colorful, glossy photos, keep looking. If you want to sit on the sofa and knit with someone who has been there, done that, check out an Elizabeth Zimmermann books (many will be available at your library).

Today I would like to take a moment and share my latest finished project, the February Baby Sweater on two needles. The pattern is from Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Knitter’s Almanac. I love this little sweater and wish I had made it for my wee ones when then were still wee. There are some modified, larger sized versions of this pattern floating around the internet, that I might have to track down but in the meantime, I can’t wait to see this one on my soon-to-be here niece.
