Thanks so much for your wonderful post! I wrote an all-family email (and spend many, many hours making sure it was "just right") to try to convey our ideals and gratitude for our family’s gifts this year. I’ve received some nice replies form family members, but still waiting to hear back from the notoriously anti-me grandparents. 🙂 I really appreciated your section on accepting non-ideal gifts graciously and hope to have some opportunities to model that for my little ones this year. Thanks for your guidance and insight!
Beautiful and well written article. I find myself dealing with this quite often. I’m not as strict about toys as a lot of people I know. I do allow a fair amount of plastic toys, for instance right now we are drowning in tiny princesses. However when I do draw the line certain family members have a tendency to look at the line, look at me and then *leap* over it. I have insisted time and time again that there are to be NO Bratz dolls given to my daughter and yet I know my MIL is getting her one for Christmas because “They aren’t as bad as they used to be”. Sigh.
