Winter Wonderland Applique Collection

Winter Wonderland Applique Collection

There was no white Christmas this year. Those of us that live in the Northern United States, like Michigan, tend to feel cheated when our Christmases aren’t white. It’s what we’ve come to expect after all. It’s what “they” sing songs about, center movies around, and it is the quintessential scene on the vast majority of Christmas cards. No Christmas snow equals a bunch of cantankerous locals!

Of course logic tells us that not all Christmases can be white, and somehow we do survive without it, but we aren’t happy! No matter what the forecast tells us, we always wait for that magical moment every snowless Christmas Eve, when we throw open the doors, like in the classic movie White Christmas, and we are greeted by a white landscape with downy flakes, reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell. No snow this Christmas. Like I said, we were cheated!

There is snow in the forecast now, including some extremely cold temps. All I can say is, a little late! On the other hand, bring it on, because I like to hibernate in the winter. I tend to stay home more, feed the birds more, have more time to read and craft, in other words, I’m afforded more time to slow down. In another couple of months we will begin preparing for the spring, but right now we can enjoy the cold and the snow and short days with long evenings.

It’s only right that our January Applique Blocks should have a snow theme. Many Northern children receive snow themed gifts for Christmas, from boots and mitts to skis and sleds. It’s time for snow forts and snow angels, for snow men and school closings for snow days. So… let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

I have already shared 3 of the appliques in this collection. Over the next couple of weeks I will share the final applique and coloring pages for each. Whether you love the snow like me, barely tolerate it or live in an area that seldom or never has snow, I hope you enjoy our snowy January Applique Blocks!

  1. I love these blocks! Having grown up in the Midwest, it was an adjustment spending Christmases in Phoenix. This year, while we didn’t get snow, we got actual cold weather so it felt like Christmas! A wonderful gift from nature.

    1. I really would have a hard time leaving Michigan. Many of my friends head south for the winter. I can’t do it. Although I don’t play in the snow like I use to, I adore the beauty of the season. I’m so glad you like the appliques 🙂 ~Kimara~
