Yesterday I went to Wee Folk Art’s Applique Blocks to get a pattern for a butterfly. What? I never designed a butterfly? That’s crazy! I thought for sure I had. I know I designed a butterfly for another project, but with butterfly season upon us, I decided I needed to rectify this situation and add the butterfly to our collection of other insects… a Firefly and a Grasshopper. So… here is a sweet little butterfly that can be appliqued to just about anything, right? As always, I designed the butterfly to fit on a 6″ x 6″ block but it can be enlarged or reduced to meet your needs. The butterfly is lovely and just in time. I need an applique to put on an aprom I am making as a thank you gift for my son’s teacher. I also love the grasshopper. Thanks.
Adorable. I like the idea of making an apron for a teacher’s gift. I hadn’t thought of that, It would be different. And yes this butterflies would look cute on one. Your firefly is so cute. As for the grasshopper, it is so good all I can say is YUCK. I hate grasshoppers and this one looks real 🙂 Thanks for all your great work ladies.

Thanks, Danae. Actually many of our crafts are quite quick. I also take a craft with me everywhere I go, whether it is knitting or some hand work. I’m not very patient, so if I can get a little crafting in while I have to wait for appointments, etc., I handle it oh so much better and don’t feel like I’m wasting time 🙂
I absolutely love all your applique blocks! I have spent the better part of the day printing them and pinning them on pinterest so that I can find them in a jiffy. I love the butterfly, and was wondering if there was any way you could make a ladybug applique block and/or a panda bear applique block if/when you have a chance? My sister has cerebral palsy and loves ladybugs and pandas…her room is filled with everything my mom, my little sister, and I can find. She changes her ladybugs and panda bears out daily. I would love to be able to make her something for her room with one of your blocks. Thank you so much for sharing your talent! It is truly inspirational!

I just came across your site today. WOW! I really love your designs!! I noticed on your patterns that you specify a certain number of strands for the different sections. Are these instructions mainly for hand applique? I will be using them for machine applique, hoping that it will look about the same????

Glad you found us 🙂 If you are hand appliqueing with felt, and want to get the same look as me, I share how many strands of embroidery floss I used. I have machine appliqued these on, and they look great, too. I've used felt and woven fabric. I've added a 1/4" seam allowance, and turned under the edges. I've cut the patterns out of woven fabric, and let the edges fray. I've enlarged the patterns and reduced them. They all have different looks. It just depends on the look you are going for. Experiment until you are thrilled 🙂 Our patterns are meant to be versatile. Have fun with them 🙂
