This is a technique we have done a couple different times over the years as you can see in our <a href=\"https:\/\/weefolkart.com\/its-snowing-dining-room\/\">winter bird paintings<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weefolkart.com\/stormy-night-oil-pastel-and-watercolor-paintings\/\">autumn sky paintings<\/a>. We are re-visiting the process today to create a stormy sky landscape painting for our <a href=\"https:\/\/weefolkart.com\/homeschool\/simple-seasons-curriculum\/puddles-ponds\/\">Puddles and Ponds<\/a> summer unit.<\/p>\n<h3>Stormy Sky Landscape Painting Materials:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a class=\"easyazon-link\" href=\"https:\/\/weefolkart.com\/homeschool\/product\/B0017D5XO2\/US\/homeschool-companion-20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-cart=\"n\" data-cloak=\"y\" data-identifier=\"B0017D5XO2\" data-locale=\"US\" data-localize=\"y\" data-popups=\"n\" data-tag=\"homeschool-companion-20\">Oil Pastels<\/a> or Crayons<\/li>\n<li>Watercolor Paper<\/li>\n<li>Black and Blue Watercolor Paints<\/li>\n<li>Paint Brush<\/li>\n<li>Sponge or rag<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13894 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weefolkart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/lightning-painting1.jpg?resize=545%2C363\" alt=\"Lightning Painting Oil Pastel and Watercolor Materials\" width=\"545\" height=\"363\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Directions:<\/h3>\n<p>Use oil pastels or crayons to draw a storm sky landscape. Use gray for clouds, white for lightning, and dark greens and browns for the ground. You can add additional buildings and trees if you would like. Press firmly around the edges of shapes but do not fill the image with pastel or crayon completely. You will not be able to see the lightning until the next step.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13895 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weefolkart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/lightning-painting2.jpg?resize=545%2C363\" alt=\"Lightning Painting Coloring with Oil Pastels\" width=\"545\" height=\"363\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Prep your paper for watercolors by dampening the whole page with a wet sponge or rag.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13900\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/weefolkart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/lightning-painting6.jpg?resize=545%2C363\" alt=\"Lightning Painting Watercolor\" width=\"545\" height=\"363\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using a wide brush, cover the entire page with dark blue and black watercolor paints. The paint will not stick to the oil pastel or crayon markings.
