on the needles :: august 2025 knits
Right now in the first week of August, I have two active WIPs, two projects on hold, one that needs to be frogged, and another one that I really want to cast-on ASAP. The project titles are linked to my Ravelry pages with all the specifics about the patterns, yarns, and notes.
Active WIPs
lavender lyon sweater
lyon sweater by petiteknit | friends cotton silk by hobbii

Earlier this summer, I made a bright mint and aqua Lyon Sweater in the Friends Cotton Silk yarn. It is the perfect, beachy, summer sweater. The DK cotton/silk yarn makes it the perfect weight to throw on in chilly AC or for a cooler evening stroll. As soon as I finished it, I knew I wanted another, slightly more muted one. It took a little longer than I had planned to get this one on the needles, but the stripes make it a super fast knit, and I’m hoping to have it done soon while the temperatures are still very much on the higher end. I’m also very excited to finally be using this special hand-dyed variegated yarn that I picked up on vacation about 15 years ago as my contrasting stripe.
I’m hoping to have the body done this week, but then it will probably put on hold for a bit while we are out of town. I don’t think I will want to deal with working on the sleeves in the little bits of time I might have to knit while on vacation.
sunset perfect knit tee
perfect knit t-shirt by Kaitlin Barthold (free pattern) | uptown bamboo dk by universal yarn

This is my third version of the Perfect Knit T-Shirt. I kinda want to have a whole stash of these… one in each of my favorite colors to wear. With each one, I’ve made a few minor tweaks to the pattern, in hopes of creating my truly “Perfect-fit” tee.
The first two I made with the 100% bamboo Truboo yarn from Lion Brand. I love the feel of those tees, but they are very heavy and easily stretch out. They have become more like lounge tees for me now. For this one, I wanted to try a bamboo blend to see if it holds up a little bit better. This bright coral color is a summer staple of mine, although I may not finish this one until the fall.
The simple raglan shaping makes these an easy-peasy knit. This is my mind-less on the go knitting project that doesn’t require much concentration. This one will definitely be going with me on vacation.
WIPs on Hold
scrappy jethro cardigan
jethro by Tanis Lavallee | scrap yarns

I have two projects right now that are on hold for the time being. One is my Scrappy Jethro cardigan, which is primarily a crochet project. I make a few squares here and there when I’m in the mood to use a hook. This is just a slow, scrappy project, and I’m fine with it taking a bit of time to complete.
The other project is my Hematite GARDEN cardigan which has a few finicky things that I need to work through. I put the body on hold to finish the sleeves, but I don’t love how the first sleeve turned out, which is my own error, because I deviated from the pattern. I’m currently working on the second sleeve and will be doing it a little bit different. If I like the second one better, I will need to rip out the cuff and a few inches of the first sleeve, so I can knit it to match. I just haven’t been inspired to pick it up. I do want to finish it this fall if it doesn’t get done sooner. We’ll see. I have yarn for another light weight cardigan that I would really like to cast-on, but I won’t let myself until this one is done.
Frogging
I’m pretty sure I’m going to be frogging my denim slatter tee. There is nothing wrong with the pattern… or the yarn… it just doesn’t feel like the right yarn/pattern combo. I think this yarn would be much more wearable as a sleeveless top. I’m probably going to frog it and set the yarn aside for next spring. I don’t think I want to start any more hot-weather pieces at this point in the summer. I’m itching for some fall cast-ons.
Casting-On
rose garden cape
little red riding hood by Alison Stewart-Guinee | simply soft paints by Caron

This one is a super nostalgic project… a new little red riding hood cape. I made Fairy her cape way back in the fall of 2010 and it is still be used to this day. My girls have continued to style it for the Ren Fest every year. It is of course very short, but still very cute. I want to make them a couple of new ones with a few mods to size them up. I have some random yarn, from a long ago abandoned blanket project, that I will use for the first one. I want to try and get this one on the needles in the next day or two so I may stand a chance of finishing in time for this year’s Ren Fest.
