The other day I shared the pattern for the Spicer’s Autumn Leaf Hat. Today I am sharing the lace leaves scarf knitting pattern. I LOVE the leaf pattern, and I like how thin the scarf is. It’s a way to add great color and “toastiness”, without all the bulk of a wide scarf.

Autumn Leaves Scarf Knitting Pattern Materials
- Size 8 needles
- Worsted weight yarn (shown in Cascade 220 Quatro – colorway 5011)
Gauge is not important

CO 27 sts
Row 1: K5, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K5, YO, K1, YO, K5, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K5 (25 sts)
Row 2 and all even rows: P across
Row 3: K4, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K4, YO, K3, YO, K4, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K4 (23 sts)
Row 5: K3, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K3, YO, K5, YO, K3, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K3 (21 sts)
Row 7: K2, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K2, YO, K7, YO, K2, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K2 (19 sts)
Row 9: K2, YO, K1, YO, K5, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K5, YO, K1, YO, K2 (21 sts)
Row 11: K2, YO, K3, YO, K4, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K4, YO, K3, YO, K2 (23 sts)
Row 13: K2, YO, K5, YO, K3, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K3, YO, K5, YO, K2 (25 sts)
Row 15: K2, YO, K7, YO, K2, SL1K, K2T, PSSO, K2, YO, K7, YO, K2 (27 sts)
Row 16: P27
Repeat row 1-16 until you have reached desired length.
BO after completing row 16 of the pattern.
K = Knit
P = Purl
SL1K = Slip 1 Knit-wise
K2T = Knit 2 Together
PSSO = Pass Slipped Stitch Over
YO = Yarn Over
CO = Cast On
BO = Bind Off
Completing the series, SL1K, K2T, PSSO will decrease 2 stitches.

Okay now I have a question…I keep getting stuck at row 11. It ends with K3 and I keep being left with just one stitch K3? Any idea where I’m going wrong? It feels like I’ve knit the first 11 rows 187 times.
I'll have to double check it this evening. I'll cast on another and see if there is an error in the pattern – maybe I mis-typed something. I actually wrote it up last fall and so it isn't fresh in my mind. The only thing I can think at this moment is to ask if you are starting with the right number of stitches… missing a step in row 9 would of course throw off row 11. So sometimes the fix is back a row or two. See how many stitches you are starting with for row 11 and I'll get back to you later on, after I've worked it up a bit.
I started counting each odd row to double check myself and I think I had the 21 sts at the end of 9 and 10. I’ll do it again to make sure. I’m a newbie so I may be doing something wrong. Thanks for your help!
AHHH … got it. There was an error. Row 11, 13, 15 should all start and end with K2. I originally had done the scarf with a straight edge, rather than the scalloped so there were extra stitches on the sides to square it off. The pattern is fixed and should work fine now (hopefully). Sorry about that. Thanks for being a beta tester ;).

Hi..on the first row, I end up with 25 stitches as stated, however the row cannot end with a k5. I am only left with a possibility to do a k1. What is wrong?
Hi Donna, I’m not sure why it isn’t working for you. It is hard to help without seeing your work. Did you start with 27 sts? I’ve double checked the pattern and there doesn’t seem to be any errors in row one. Are you doing the PSSO correctly? That should not involve an new stitch but passing the stitch you slipped previously over the top of the two you knit together. The yarn overs also don’t involve using a live stitch. If you were trying to do use a live stitch with the PSSO and YOs then you would end up off by 4 sts. That is the only thing I can think of without seeing it. Do you have any questions about how to do a stitch?
