Normally I don't knit much in the summer. It's hot and my energy is usually more focused outdoors. This year has been different. I don't know if this has been because this season has been mostly cold and rainy so far or due to the fact that my Raverly Queue is continuously growing rather than shrinking or simply that the more I knit the more I want to knit, but I haven't put down the needles much yet. For the most part though, I am at least knitting summery things. I love my new book, More Knitting in the Sun: 32 Patterns for Knit for Kids. I want to make everything in the book! I will be sharing some of my completed project from the book shortly.
Today I'm sharing my Rainbow Falls Scarf. Last fall I won two beautiful skeins of bamboo yarn from Knitty Grrlz. The first skein I used to make my Cross Stitch Scarf, the other has been sitting in my stash waiting for something special. In between a couple larger projects I've been working on recently, I needed a break and wanted a quick project for some immediate gratification. I found this lovely Waterfall Scarf Pattern by Cosymakes and thought it would be a great project to showcase this lovely yarn. This is the first time I completed a project with a drop stitch. It was fun and I will be playing with concept more in the future. I have additional notes on my Ravelry page. I love this one so much I just might have to keep it for myself.
Anyone else still knitting away this summer? What are you working on?

It’s so beautiful! I’m just a novice knitter, (I can only knit or purl, lol), but I think if there’s one knew knitting skill I learn this summer, I’ll have to make it the drop stitch!
I am planning on knitting a few scarves this summer, so I can get a head start on a couple Christmas presents (I know, it’s way early, but I don’t want to be stuck making everything at the last minute!).
By the way, I agree with you, you should keep this one for yourself! 🙂
I agree that it is never too early to get started on holiday gifts. They always seem to creep up on you if you're not diligent 🙂 But I must say, I do disagree with you agreeing with Michelle on keeping the scarf. I really think she should consider giving it to the woman who birthed her… IMHO 🙂
My 7yo is in a week-long knitting camp and I expect we will have more knit projects together after camp. She has mastered the 10-stitch square … the building block for a menagerie of projects.

Your waterfall scarf is beautiful… I dont knit but I do crochet, I was wondering if you know if this pattern can be done using crochet techniques?
Hmmm… I really don't know. Maybe a crocheting fan of ours can help you out. This pattern uses a drop stitch technique and I don't know if there is such a thing in crocheting. I've only done simple crochet patterns.
Hang on… quick google search on Crochet Drop Stitch Pattern led me to this pattern…

Although it is not wavy… it does have a similar feel to it. Since that was an easy find, I'm sure there are plenty more patterns out there using that drop stitch technique if you look.
