Last week I received this message from Helen Selfe-Maguire Roberts: “I was wondering, do you have any patterns for knitted and crocheted berets or hats? The ladies at Church need some patterns and they can’t seem to find any. Any help or suggestions, would be gratefully received.” Challenge accepted. I suspect it wasn’t that they couldn’t find any, after all there are hundreds of hat patterns out there, instead I’m going to guess that there are so many it can be overwhelming to sort through them and pick a selection to keep at your fingertips.
When selecting patterns for this post I gave myself a few guidelines.
- Find patterns that were free. If church ladies are knitting them up, chances are they are doing it for a good cause and don’t need to be paying for patterns.
- Keep them simple. I was looking for patterns that were easy to make. Some of these are a bit more complex than others but all of them should be able to be made with beginner skills.
- Have an assortment of knit and crochet patterns.
- Include patterns for every member of the family. Many of the patterns include sizing from babies through adults. Depending on the colors and yarns that are selected, most of these patterns can be made for males or females, young or mature.
I am hopeful that this collection keeps the Church Ladies working for years to come!
