This series covers several different knitting stitches using the Learn-to-Knit Afghan book by Barbara Walker. Whether you are a true beginner or an intermediate knitter, you can take your knitting to the next level working through the blocks in this book. About once a week I will be adding one new block to the blog with some of my notes. If you would like to knit along with us please feel free to leave your comments, questions, suggestions, and links to photos in the COMMENT section. You can also add a photo to our Flickr group or tag a Tweet with #WFAlearn2knit. If you are just joining us you might want to start with the introductory post.

Getting Started Knitting
If you are completely new to knitting you can learn the basics of getting starting with our Newbie Knitting series. Once you have tackled the first few lessons there, you will be ready to begin your afghan.
Working with the Garter and Rib Pattern
This is the last of the rib stitch patterns. I really enjoy how this pattern creates a wavy shape and how the twisted edge runs up the whole length of the block. With this pattern I found it much easier to knit when I set aside the directions and just looked at what I needed to do next. It is an easy pattern to memorize and I kept making mistakes when I was just trying to count rows. When I started trusting what I felt like I needed to do next I stopped having to backtrack.

[…] Block Seven: Garter and Rib Pattern […]
Hi Michelle,
Do you have the pattern for the Block Seven: Garter and Rib Pattern at the top of this post, I just love it. I am not very experienced in knitting but would really like to try this one. Do you know the actual name of the pattern as I have been looking on-line but cannot find one anywhere.
Thanks in advance.
The pattern is from the book Learn to Knit Afghan. You can find it on Amazon… https://amzn.to/2u3bF78 . Enjoy!
