While I was off on Staycation, Michelle did a great job of holding down the fort. She managed to feed the fish and water the plants! (There’s a rather humorous inside joke here that bears telling at another time!) Anyway, on top of sharing a couple of projects, she also gave the site an overhaul. I LOVE the new look. We’ll have some exciting news to share about it soon.
While I was “gone”, mcimand asked if we could turn our new mushrooms into an applique block. Since we love pleasing our readers, it was one of the first items on my to-do list. So, we now have the Wee Folk Art Mushrooms available as an applique block. Note: The actual pattern includes the 4 mushrooms pictured in our banner. When making this block, I picked 2 of the mushrooms, #2 and #3. I blanket stitched the mushroom shapes to the block, slightly overlapping #2 over #3, then adding the spots using a running stitch. This is just an example of many ways you can use the 4 mushroom patterns. Later in the week I have plans for sharing a different use for the pattern.
Hope you like our new appliques and find many uses for them. As always, they were designed for a 6″ x 6″ block but can be enlarged or reduced to meet your needs. The pattern is available in our FREE Applique Data Base and you can get it here. Enjoy!

I love the clean simple lines of your mushrooms. I have a shirt that neeeds a little jazzing up. These would be great. They’d also look good on your treasure pouches, don’t you think? I love your site and I love the new look. Again, nice clean simple lines but it still looks folksy.
Finally mushrooms in earthy, fresh colors! I love it Kimara!
Aww, you always have the cutest applique projects! I’ll be linking.
I love your new look. I have a question, though. When you say that Michelle gave the site an overhaul, does that mean she actually designed the site, like drawing out the images, or is there somewhere you go that you can pick and chose designs that you put together. I want to start a blog and I know there are all the usual sites like blogger and wordpress but I would like something different. Is there a blog design “mall” out there or do I need to get a graphic designer to help?
Yes those are my designs (as in drawing the images)… the background and header. I’m a graphic designer by trade although it has been a long time since I’ve done much more than just quicky updates to our personal websites. There is a story to go with the new designs… but my mom has something in mind for an unveiling of sorts so I will leave that to her. 🙂 Thanks everyone who has complimented the new look.
If you are looking for a way to ‘pretty up’ a basic site like blogger/wordpress there are a lot of free downloadable themes out there to personalize your site. Check out The Cutest Blog on the Block (themes for blogger). I think that may be what you are looking for but there are a lot of other theme malls out there if you check google. Have fun setting up your new site.
Love the mushrooms! Perhaps the kids’ t-shirts need some applique….Actually, might use the pattern to decorate hair clips.
