It has been a busy, topsy turvy few days and truly can’t imagine things settling down for a while. This past weekend was bittersweet. We were preparing for our 2 new pups to join our household when we got a call Friday morning that both of them were sick. Within 24 hours we lost them both to parvo. Having just lost our dear friend Scully, we both took it very hard. So, so sad. Although Tim swore we would not be bringing any new animals into a heart for a long time, by that afternoon, 2 new rescue puppies joined our family. They too are border collie mixes, and look quite a bit like Scully. We named the boys Sheldon and Leonard, and if you happen to be fans of The Big Bang Theory like we are, you’ll understand our choice of names 🙂 All is well except our 2 Yorkies are questioning our decision. They were use to living with a Husky and a Border Collie, but they were adults when the Yorkies meet them. The pure unadulterated energy of the 2 pups is a bit overwhelming, and if looks could kill, George would have done me in today! Wish us luck 🙂
On a crafty note… I have drawn up plans for toys to go along with the book It’s Mine, by Leo Lionni. The story is about how 3 quarrelsome siblings learn a lesson about cooperation from a very helpful toad. I am making the frogs and toads from wood, the lily pads from felt, and Michelle had a brilliant idea for the lily flower that I’ll be trying later in the week. I’ll be sharing all these patterns over the next week or so.
I’ll close with a few pics of the pups… just cuz I can 🙂 It is amazing how much they’ve grown in just 2 days. Weeds I tell you 🙂 So, here’s Leonard and Sheldon.
I’m so sorry about the puppies and parvo. Parvo is awful. We almost lost our 1 year old to parvo. He survived but he’s had digestive issues since. On the other hand, Sheldon and Leonard (hehe, I’m a fan too) are so cute. Lucky puppies to be rescued by such a giving family.
I am so excited to be getting the frog pattern. My FIL makes things for us. All I have to do is give him a pattern. We love frogs around here and we have my original copy of It’s Mine. Thanks for everything, Kimara, and have tons of fun with the pups.
Sweet Louise those little boys are cute!!! Out of sorrow comes joy. If I were 30 years younger I would have a border collie. I don’t watch BBT, so I don’t get the reference, but I do know Sheldon Leonard was a TV producer/actor.
Sheldon and Leonard on the BBT were named for Sheldon Leonard, so you really do get it. LOL
Parvo is terrible. We lost a puppy to it after having him for a week. I think I cried for 3. Second puppy got it too but I was so paranoid he was at the vet getting IV the minute one hair was out of place. He’s still with me, my boy!
I didn’t know the characters were named for Sheldon Leonard. To be honest, it wasn’t until I just looked him up that I said, "Oh yeah, I know him!" Learn somethin’ new every day 🙂
I read your website in RSS and was very sorry to see your sad experience with parvo. It’s a devastating illness. We nearly lost our puppy to it several years back. It’s quick and often unforgiving.
It’s very good to hear that there were two other little guys who needed a home. Sheldon & Leonard are precious. Enjoy them!
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of two puppies to parvo. It is a terrible scourge. When we welcomed our pup home I was so paranoid, having read about the disease in the puppy books. Sheldon and Leonard are charming. A house is not a home without a dog. Blessings, KJ
Sometimes you think you just can not take another heartbreak, but bravo to you for making the leap. I’m so sad to think of those little puppies not getting their chance, but lucky for Sheldon and Leonard that you opened your hearts.
Awwww, so sad about the puppies you lost, but Sheldon and Leonard are sooooo cute! Have a wonderfull time with them.
I am so terribly sorry for the loss of your two puppies. We went through that with our first corgi. it was just heartbreaking. Our breeder got us the next one and we went on to get another one. Now our house is one big bundle of love, joy, doggy playful fights and corgi blowing coat fur : )
Glad you did get the two rescue pups, they are too cute!
XO,
Beth
It was fun to look at your pictures. I have (1) yorkie and (1) border collie mix. My yorkie is all silver, gray and white. Have fun with them and my thoughts for “Scully.”
