Directions for peg doll witch pattern
NOTE: Wooden pegs can vary in size, even from the same company. We suggest you make a copy of the pattern, cut it out of paper, and “try it on” your wooden pegs. Make adjustments to the paper pattern before cutting out your felt to make your peg doll witch pattern.
Make a copy of the peg doll witch pattern and cut out felt pieces as follows:
- Hat, brim and body wrap Color A
- Cape Color B
- Broom bristles Color C
Glue on body wraps.
Using 6 strands of contrasting floss, blanket stitch around the outer edge of the robe. DO NOT blanket stitch along the neck.
Using a satin stitch and 6 strands of floss, sew the robe to the gnome. Make sure the center back of the robe is centered on the back seam of the body wrap.
Using 6 strands of contrasting floss, blanket stitch along the outer edge of the hat brim. With wrong sides together fold the hat in half lining up edges. Sew the 1/8” hat seam using 2 strands of matching floss and a running stitch.
Cut slits into the center circle of the hat brim following pattern. This will create several tabs. To sew the brim on, place the tabs inside the hat. From the outside stitch the brim in place using 2 strands of floss and a running stitch. Make sure the right side of the brim is visible from the top.
Place a thin line of glue around the inside of the hat where the hat meets the brim and place on your gnome tilting the hat slightly back.
Make sure the back seam of the hat is centered on the back seam of the body wrap.
To make the individual broom bristles cut along the cutting lines on the felt as marker on pattern.
Place a thin line of glue along the top of the bristles that has not been fringed. Lay the twig on the felt so 1/2″ of the twig is on the felt and roll tightly.
While holding in place tightly wrap the 6 strands of floss around the bristles. Thread the floss through a needle and weave the end into the top of the bristles.
Position the broom on an angle in front of your gnome. The broom bristles should just touch the work surface when the gnome is standing. Notice where the twig touches the gnome. Place a line of glue on the part of the twig that touches the gnome.
Glue broom to gnome. Lay the gnome on its back while the glue dries.
Now your friendly witches are ready to join their friends in a wonderful Autumn Celebration!
