The other day I shared a post about my love for strawberries, although I was very allergic to fresh strawberries when I was a little girl. So, I guess you can say I had strawberries on my brain. It reminded of the song “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries” that my dad use to sing when I was young. It was a song from 1931, and was telling people that were living through The Great Depression in the United States, to take heart, and to still enjoy life. I was singing the song, but replacing “strawberries” for “cherries”.

Life is just a bowl of cherries (strawberries).

Don’t take it serious; it’s too mysterious.

You work, you save, you worry so,

But you can’t take your dough when you go, go, go.

So keep repeating it’s the berries,

The strongest oak must fall,

The sweet things in life, to you were just loaned

So how can you lose what you’ve never owned?

Life is just a bowl of cherries (strawberries),

So live and laugh at it all.

Actually, not a bad way to embrace life! Anyway… like I said… strawberries on my brain. So, I’m sitting there, eating a peach. When I finished it, I looked at the pit and saw… you guessed it… strawberries… albeit, rather dried up berries 🙂 “Hey, these would make cute strawberries!” And, I had already been saving peach pits… doesn’t everyone?

So I used an emery board to file down the pointy part.

I painted the pits red, being careful not to use too much paint. I wanted the holes to keep their color like seeds.

I then cut some hulls out of green felt. I didn’t make a pattern, just free cut them. They do not need to be perfect! I then tied a knot in some yarn and pulled it through the middle of the hull. I used a bulky yarn.

Added some glue…

and popped it on my peach pit strawberry! I had to hold it and smoosh it a bit to get it to stay on.

After the glue was dried, I cut the yarn stem to length, added a little glue to the stem and rolled it. When it was dry the stem was hard and it won’t unravel.

So there you have it. The wee ones can certainly make these, although they might need some help cutting out the felt, but remember, they do not need to be perfect!

Now, just find a little bowl… mine is a cute 2 1/2″ bowl from Casey’s Wood Products … and sing…

“Life is just a bowl of strawberries… so live and laugh at it all!”
