A couple of weeks ago I shared a sweater and hat I knitted for the Little Lady. (Leaving Thursday for a week long visit 🙂 I wanted a little embellishment for the hat, and I made a flower using the material that I will be using to make her 2 pairs of reversible pants. Although I sewed the flower directly on her hat, you could easily add a brooch pin so it could be removed. I'm a little leery of sharp pokey things on toddlers 🙂
To make your own Frayed Fabric Flower you will need:
woven fabric scraps
felt scraps
embroidery floss
button
a copy of the pattern found HERE
brooch pin (optional)
Make a copy of the pattern. Cut out a woven print and matching felt for each of the three sizes.
Using a running stitch and 3 strands of floss, sew the woven fabric flowers to the corresponding felt flowers.
Stack the 3 flowers on top of each other with largest flower on the bottom and the smallest flower on top. Tack together.
Sew a button in the middle.
At this point, you can sew a brooch pin to the back of the flower or tack the flower to a garment.
Easy Peasy… all done 🙂
It’s funny how often your blog seems to solve a problem for me! I just finished a jumper for my daughter and it looks rather plain. I was thinking it needs something but I didn’t want to sew on an applique (too flat) and all the 3D flowers I was looking at were too much (stuck out too far). This is perfect! A little dimensional without being intrusive. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your timely tutorial.
These are very cute, I am going to be giving my daugther in law a baby show in april so i an making one for each guest. They will be pink she is having a girl, her first after three boys.
How exciting for her. All the girlie things she can now do 🙂 Love the brooches for shower favors. They will used after the shower and it will always remind the wearers of their friend 🙂
These are so darn cute! Also a great use of scraps. My favorite ones were the ones I did in a white/black/red combo & the ones I did in Halloween fabrics.
Love these! What a great way to use pretty patterned fabric but have a pin with the strength and durability of felt.
Featured them this week too.
