Ingredients for African Rice Recipe – Serves 6
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 cups water
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 crushed cardamon pod or 1 teaspoon cardamon powder
- 2/3 cup golden raisins or sultanas
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds (optional)
Directions for African Rice Recipe
Place butter in a pot on medium heat and melt. Add basmati rice and onions. Saute until rice and onions are translucent.
Add the rest of the ingredients.
Cover and simmer until rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving.
